Abstract
Future Tracking Detectors in Particle Physics - CMOS Technologies at the Limit
Even though the HL-LHC at CERN is still in the preparation, the high energy physics community is strongly thinking about what is needed in the future to shed more light on the origin of the universe. Various accelerators are being discussed on the global level. Whichever will be chosen, all options require state-of-the-art particle physics experiments with extremely precise tracking detectors. These are especially of importance for the good identification of Top Quarks and Higgs Boson, which is essential at any future facility.
This presentation will give a short overview of the possible future for particle physics followed by a discussion of the options for the innermost vertex detectors. In order to meet the extreme requirements, new technologies have to be used. With the advances of CMOS technologies, the almost perfect vertex detector is in reach.
